Sahara Showband Feature (1966-1972)

The Story

The first advertisement for the Longford-based Sahara Showband we could find was in October 1966, so we assume they started around this time. The band was managed by local Granard man Tom Joe Donohue.

In 1981 Paddy had a band called the Rhythm Blues.

In May, 1972 Paddy left the band wand was replaced by Chuck Owens

He would form a new band called The Oklahoma which played until 1976.

Band may have kept going as a local group called the Sahara Boys around the midlands.

Paddy Hanrahan sadly passed away in March 28th 2019, he was 79.

More to come.....
