Hiya All! The song that was a hit for Elvis, written by Phil Coulter, was also a hit for someone else....an actor this time. Now that's an easy one!  ;D

TP. Do you mean that PC didn't write the music :-[

Title: Re: question
Post by alpineseven on 10/18/06 at 19:55:31
Having never heard the original French version one can only assume PC wrote the English lyrics to a French song just the same as Paul Anka wrote the English lyrics to My Way and having heard the origninal of that he only changed the words into English as the song is the very same in French if you get my meaning. ??? ??? ??? ??? ??? ??? ??? ??? ??? ??? ???

Hope you don't mind me interrupting your conversation but according to Bill Martin's web-site, Phil Coulter composed the music & Bill Martin wrote the words for 'My Boy'. Which was the last top 20 hit for Elvis while he was still alive - reaching no.3 in the UK charts & no.15 in USA. Thought I'd share that piece of info with anyone interested... :-[

TP. Further to the above:::: On the label (side 2) of the Elvis LP, Good Times. Track 2. My Boy (B.Martin, P Coulter) Mews Music Ltd. If that's wrong I don't know how RCA and the two boys got away with it ??? ??? ???

Incidentally, it was originally from the Elvis LP::I Can Help. 8)

Ok we have a difference of opinion here if the information on one Lp is not the same as the other Lp then one of them is wrong its as simple as that but we will get to the bottom of this eventually. From experience i know that sleeve notes and writers credits leave a lot to be desired and are notorious for mistakes but as they say leave it with me. :-/ :-/ :-/ :-/ :-/ :-/ :-/

Title: Re: question
Post by alpineseven on 10/18/06 at 23:25:57
This research is a piece of cake so here are the facts. The song originates from 67 and the French title was as follows Parce Que Je Taime Mon Enfant which translates as Because I Love You My Child written by Claud Francois and Jean Pierre Bourtayre. The first version in English was by Richard Harris in 71 and Elvis recorded it on the 13 of Dec 73.This makes my answer 100% correct. :o :o :o :o  ::) ::) ::)

TP...have you checked out the following web-site?                   www.billmartinsongwriter.com

TP. How do you know or how can you be sure that where you got that info is correct? The source could be just as erroneous as Sleeve Notes etc., as you say and indeed, Larry Gogan.s book ;D ;D

Title: Re: question

OK go into Google and key in My Boy Elvis Presley and you will get all the information you need.It is not a site i use but whenever people need to find out something the usual cry is just Google it and thats exactly what i done and there are lots of different sites all saying the same thing so are we all wrong.Phil claims the credit just the same as Paul Anka does with My Way.You will also find out that Claud Francois who i assume you all know is a well known singer songwriter in France co wrote both My Way and My Boy.

Title: Re: question
Post by liamo on 10/19/06 at 00:16:50
Yeah. But how do you knowthe info on that site and all the other sites is correct ??? ???. They could be wrong too ???

Title: Re: question
Post by liamo on 10/19/06 at 00:22:00
Also TP. It was the ENGLISH lyrics that Elvis recorded, not the FRENCH :( And who wrote the ENGLISH lyrics? ;)

Title: Re: question
Post by alpineseven on 10/19/06 at 00:42:14
Come on now Liamo your question was who wrote the song.Phil Coulter did not write the song he wrote the English lyrics to the song.Give credit to where it is due. :-* :-* :-* :-*

Title: Re: question
Post by liamo on 10/19/06 at 01:05:26
OK. TP. ;) Now are ya goin' to give us a question or what? ???

Title: Re: question
Post by alpineseven on 10/24/06 at 21:32:08
We will wrap up this for once and for all.The original writers of My Boy were Francois /  Bourtayre and the English lyrics by Martin / Coulter and for the record if you pardon the pun the original writers of My Way were Francois / Revaux / Thibault with English lyrics by Paul Anka this information can be found on many sites and above all can be found on the original singles. :-[ :-[ :-[ :-[ :-[ :-[ :-[ :-[ :-[ :-[ :-[ :-[ :-[ :-[ :-[ :-[ :-[
