Hi there

Im new here and just wondering how i can get some pics of my dead who died recently  :( . He was Jimmy Cleary and he sang with the melochords and the blue clavens. Anyway if anyone can help can you please reply?

Hi there. I never heard either band but I definitely heard of both of them. I haven't got any pictures of them but I'll see if I can dig up some from a friend.
Sorry to hear of your Dad's passing even though I never knew the man.

I remember both bands well having danced to both them and actually did a gig with one them (the Melochords).

Original Melochords Line-Up:

Gerry Hayes (Piano/Band Leader)
Jimmy Day (Tenor Sax/Vocals)
Paddy O'Connor (Tenor Sax)
Brendan O'Connell (Guitar/Vocals)
Shay Dempsey (Double Bass/Vocals)
Willie Deavey  (Drums/Vocals)
Dickie Rock (Lead Vocals)

The band, minus Shay Dempsey and Paddy O'Connor became the New Melochords. (Shay was replaced by Noel McGann on Bass Guitar) Later they added a trumpet player who's name escapes me, and lead singer Eileen Reid and became  the Cadets. Dickie, of course went on to front the Miami Showband.
The only singer I ever knew to be in the Blue Clavons was the late Butch Moore.

. Maybe there might not be many photos around as my father left befor they went onto bigger and better things. He sang alongside  Butch moore and i have some photos of them singing. Also i know of people who saw the blue clavons with my father singing  in the Olympic in 1961 and around the 60's. His signiture tune was "Words" by Pat Boone.

Aaahh well not to worry i'll make do with teh photos i have of him  :( :'(

I asked Dickie about your dad the other night ( I'm in his band)  and he was pretty certain, as I am, that it wasn't the The Melochords he sang with and I guess your Clavons photos would bear that out.
As far as I can remember the Blue Clavons had a few guys from the same family in the band... I think their name was Harrington but I can't swear to it. I'll see what I can find out for you.

Thanks for your help trying to find out about my Dad. A friend of the family gave my mother a pic of my Dad singing with the Melochords the other night so i'll try get it and scan it onto here for you. I contacted the man and he said my father was in the melochords before dickie rock!!! Did you ask dickie if he knew my father as i know the played a charity function along with joe dolan way back.

Anyway i will try get the pic up here of him singing in the melochords along with the blue clavons photo i have.

I was talking to my brother just there who spoke to Dickie Rock a couple of years ago in a Garage where Dickie spoke about my father singing and general stuff about him so they definitely knew one another. Would you be able to ask Dickie if he knew my father well.

Had a chat with Dickie regarding your dad. He remembered his name alright and the conclusion we arrived at was that your dad was in the band before Butch Moore (who Dickie replaced)
Interesting little aside: The Melochords are the only Showband to have TWO of their former lead singers separately representing Ireland with distinction in the Eurovision Song Contest.
Could you possibly scan me those photos ? I'd love to see them and I know Dickie would  would too.
