After playing at hundreds of dances and seeing thousands of couples leave arm in arm, I'm sure someone out there met their spouse or a very special person at a dance. Do you remember who was playing? Was it a big crowd? Did you go there all the time? What was the song playing when you "knew"? Come on, someone out there has a story to tell! Please?

Hi Pamela,

Yes, it is unfortunate that so much of the music of the era was owned by record companies that either went out of business, or were bought up by others...their catalogs of recordings never to see the light of day again. There was so much music produced by the bands of the 70's and 80's but nobody seems to know where the master tapes are today and even if they did, it probably wouldn't make economic sense to re-release the songs, unless on a nostalgia compilation. Unless an artist has remained a big name, their back catalogs are more or less gone.

Hi

Many moons ago I met a young musician playing in a well known showband  at The National Ballroom and ended up going out with him! I moved to Ireland to be with him.  Ahh...No this is not a happy ending kinda story....I auditioned and got a job singing in a band and had to move away down the country,so we never got to see eachother - so the romance was over!!.Great times though! D

Met my husband in the Casino Ballroom in Castlerea 29 years ago.  Married for 22 years.  Tony Stevens was playing that night.  Have fond memories of the Casino.  Was a great place to go on a Sunday night.  When I think of the crowds that would be there ... you wouldn't get a cricket out now on a Sunday night.  How times have changed.
