Gerry is doing a great job,I am still a showband fanatic,so c'mom everyone give him the support,we all know that the showbands set the trend for the musical scene in Ireland, yep we all had our favourites some were lucky enough to do it for their living,so let's share those memories please!

Hi My name is Eveline and my friend Mary Fagan (nee Sowney) is  looking for anyone who knows what Michael Magee is doing now Michael played with Pennyfeather in the 60's/70's.  Mary is happily married livingin Kircubbin but would love to catch up with Michael after all these years.

Undecided Hello out there!  Regarding 'where is everyone?', I'm a relative newcomer to the site, but what puzzles me is: where is this site set up? I think the reason why people are not on the site could be because it is read by those in other countries. Is this why the time at the top of page differs to mine? Can anyone educate me on this?
Thnx
Trisha

Did anyone purchase a copy of the Sunday Independent this week? If so I would appreciate your thoughts on the free Showband CD given away free with the paper. The Indo spent thousands of euros on tv and radio advertising and what did we get, a disc that played right into the hands of Bob Geldof and co. The CD contained in the main re-recordings , and pretty dire ones I have to say, of the showband classics such as "Hucklebuck", "I Ran All The way Home" etc. The disc did no credit to either the artists concerned or the showband era in general. If I hadn't lived through the Showband era and bought the Indo just sample the classic showband artists and recordings from the era I would go away convinced that the showband era and its recordings were a load of crap. Why on earth didn't the Indo license the original recordings and by doing so let the young people of today savour the audio delights of a great great era.  Let's have your views.

I couldn't agree more. My feelings are exactly the same. The indo. did a dire disservice to the showbands and, as you rightly say, played into the hands (or mouths ) of the so-called experts like Sir Bob. Embarrassed

Hi all!  Cheesy
I live in England and don't get the Indepenent here. But I do sypathize with poor quality c.d.'s that some of the papers dish out. I have bought Irish tapes & c.d.'s over here and the artists have been unrecognisable - not the brilliant musicians & singers that I remember. As for Sir Bob, well just listen to the droning sounds that he calls entertaining music! Need I say anymore?  Lips Sealed
Keep healthy
