Comments: My wife & I were home from England on holiday & went dancing at the Embassy, Castleblayney - we spoke to Larry during the break & explained that we could not get his records in England - Larry got the entire band to sign one of his LPs & presented it to us.  That LP is our most treasured piece of music - what a wonderfully talented group of musicians - especially our great friend Ronnie Griffiths

I see that there is nothing written about him in the "where are they now" section...Well, he left the band in 1964 due to illness...upon his recovery he contiued to play on the jazz scene for many years..sadly, he passed away in 1999 but lives on in his four children and ten grandchildren!!!  Really enjoyed the website..thanks!

Comments: Hi, this is DJ Curtin-from the Kerry Blues, the Irish Showband's daughter Kathleen again, just stopping in to say hello to everyone.  My dad is heading over to Ireland in 2 weeks, I believe he will be there in Ireland on November 29th to sometime in the beginning of January.  He and Mark Lean (the Emerald Elvis) do shows in various towns every few months and this is yet another tour.  I can get more details if anyone is interested.  I think this is a wonderful website, I love to show it to people because it makes me so proud that my dad is on here and plus there are so many pic's we (the family) have never seen.  Thanks again and keep it up, it's great.

Comments: So pleased that your website is doing well, thank you for updating the info on Annie Mullin, she is not only a great singer, but a very beautiful and lovely lady, it was great to see a colour photo of Carole  and New Blues, unfortunately I lost mine after several house moves, both ladies gave me a lot of support nearly  two years ago when I nearly lost my wife after a major operation,  they were the best two  female singers. Keep up the good work!

We always looked forward to the Johnny Flynn band coming to town. Also the Royal Show band at the Ulster hall , these two venues were the only places that could handle the crowd that always showed up for these two brilliat bands ,and listening to Brendan Bowyer was always a treat.Of all the bands that were around at that time these two in particular stand out in my mind,I even got to talk personally to Brendan bowyer in Las Vegas were himself and the Irish Showband as they were known there and were very well received .Thanks for bringing a lot of good memories to mind . I will be a regular reader on your site from here on .Keep up the great work ,sincerely a devotde showband fan .William (Billy) Magee .Camarillo So California

Comments: This is a great website! I have been wondering about the members of a band that I used to be in love with in the 70's! The band was The Dublin Corporation and my friend and I would travel all over the land just to hear them. We partied well in those days. Their music moved us to our very core and we followed them whenever we could. I guess we were their "groupies". We loved them all. And then they were gone and it seemed that our moment of being "hippies" and "flowerchildren" of the late 60's and early 70's went with them. Over the years I have often thought about Sean Fagan and the boys. I always miss them and will always love them. Love, Basia

Answer: This is because as far as we know, Andy was never in a showband and the Commitments did not come on the scene until 1991 which is after the period covered by the site (1950-1990). I hope this explains.

Comments: Just came across your website - very interesting and enlightening. I'm trying to find any information about a band which probably was not clased as a show-band, but for all that was a very popular band in the early 1930's, and even before. The name was Billy Cummins and his Band from Roscrea, Co. Tipperary. My interest is in the drummer, Dinny Murray, who worked in  the band for many years. He was my father, now deceased. Any information would be much appreciated. Yours hopefully, Patrick Murray.

Dickie Rock and (in the begining) The Miami were all I lived for. Im still the same about Dickie Rock and love to get to see him wherever he plays. I got to see other bands and in those days bought Spotlight every week to keep up with the news. This web site is brilliant for information and its great to see all the old photo's. Just the other day I found  an email from D.J. Curtins daughter and I have sent one back to her so Im hoping for a reply. I go to the Showband Shows 'DO YOU COME HERE OFTEN' every Christmas and last year I went to the shows every night (11 all) in Belfast,Dublin and Derry thats how much I love them. Comments: My maiden name was Patricia Sweeney, and I live in County Clare. My Uncle "Malachy Sweeney" R.I.P. had a Famous Ceili Band in the 1950's. He was known the length and breath of Ireland, and England, and U.S.A.- Carnegie Hall. I have a photograph of the ceili Band when he had Johnny Pickering (RIP). Playing with the Band, and Margaret Dillon-Johnny Pickering's wife playing the Piano in the band, also the great fiddler "Brendan Mc Glinchey". I was a champion Irish Dancer, and during my summer holidays from school I would get the opportunity of doing a wee bit of an exhibition throughout Ireland. I am in a photo taken during a ceili at the "Star Ballroom" Cappamore,Co. Limerick. If you's are interested in same, let me know at my e-mail. Sincerely,
Patricia.

Comments: It would be nice to see Gerry and the Merry Boys reform and go on the Northwest Circuit for a term to see how things go. They  had a great band for a five piece where seven piece bands were all the go.

Comments: hi Bill Mellon here ( former drummer with The Derry City Showband ... The Magnificent Seven ... The Mighty Rhythm Boys ... The Checkers ... since stopping as a drummer I have had my own career as an entertainer ... singer/pianist and cabaret artist pretty much all over the globe lol ) and I have to compliment you on a beautiful web site ... your information is "almost" correct although perhaps you might be interested in the fact that the term  "showband" was first introduced by a well known local band of it`s time here in Derry ... "The Billy Campbell Band Show" ... official name ...note the "showband" inference ... and this was long before "The Clipper Carlton" or any other "showband" was ever heard tell of ... (I had the good fortune to be a member (double bass) around the tender age of sixteen) ... just thought you might be interested in this piece of information ... and I sincerely apologize for being so long winded ... keep up the great work ... Bill

Comments: Great to show my son Emmet a picture of his Grandpa - Willie Healy with Dermot O'Brien and all the other Clubmen!!  Grandpa Willie was one of the clubmen from the showband times of the 60's.  Willie is still playing first trumpet with Louis Smyth and the Glen Miller Legacy -Big Band in Drogheda.  Willie will be 75 on the 17th of December and were all very proud of him and his achievements. Willie even brought out a CD of his greatest hits to raise money for two local charities in Drogheda. Go Willie, GO.....Great web site! Sinead (Healy) Rock

Comments: I have just discovered your website, and was delighted to see all about the Clipper Carlton. They were my all   time favourites. I have been trying to locate a video or dvd of a show that was recorded by RTE, of the clippers doing one of there shows, I think in some Ballroom in the west   I think Mayo. I recorded it at the time, and my young son of 3 years loved it , especially the Laurel and hardy, skit. he played it over and over . it must be over 20 years ago. Unfortunately I lost it and would love to get a copy of it. If any of their fans had it. I live in Carlow. It is so sad to see how many have died. Kind regards, Joe .

Comments: I see no reference to the colomba gallagher band they were quite succesful for some years. The band had the 4 macs as vocalists lead singer was the late tommy mc. colgan, and probably had the best alto sax player on the island the late johnny crampsie. Columba has also sadly gone to be with all those late great musicians.

Answer: Actually the Columba Gallagher Showband are listed on the site, but we have no photo of them (at least yet). You can see their name listed on the Showbands Page.
