One LP was titled 'The Cordovox Magic of Valentino'.  Information on the man is limited, I have discovered he's an Irishman living in England but that's about all I've managed to find out.  i would love to locate his music. Comments: Hey, anyone out there remember a band called the Skyliners from Dublin, who had to change name to the Airliners, because  the FED already had a registered Skyliners. Same band and members jumped into the New Young Shadows and then onto The Millionaires shoes around 1969 or so. Any of you out there ex members of that band? Mick, Noel, Joey, Maurice, Paddy, Ossie Jimmy or any other member that played with us<<. Good site by the way, I did find 2 *fotos* of one band I played in, SHAFT, if anyone remembers it. Thanks

Comments: imagine my surprise when talking to a woman at Salamanca Market in Hobart, Tasmania to find out that Ivan McBride was living in Hobart!!!!  I used to travel to dances with the "Shyrocket" (and later "Rockets) and occasionally handle their fan mail.   Couldn't believe it when I found out where Ivan lived .... 3 minutes drive from my house..... we met up again for the first time in 40 years ... and talked non stop for about three hours, reminiscing and catching up on old times.    What an amazingly small world we live in in Tasmania!!!!!!!

Comments: Hi, I was with The Strand Showband and also Margo and the Marvettes before becoming a relatively successful theatrical agent in the UK and in South Africa.  A lot of N.I. musicians and entertainers went to South Africa for me and quite a few of them are still there. My main purpose of this entry is to talk about one of the greatest supporters of music and entertainment in Belfast and surrounding areas, namely Dermot O'Donnell.  He owned The Queens Court in Bangor and also The Abercorn Club in Belfast. A lot of you will know of these places and will have worked in them. His efforts kept live entertainment in Belfast City Centre when everyone else had given up.  He sadly passed away about 18 months ago.  If anyone remembers and cares to post their thoughts it would be great. I know that Trixie and Trevor Burns might have something to say. Great site and keep up the good work.  Ray

Comments: Just came across this site last night. Great to see it and amazed at the names that I have seen here that are no longer about. Bobby Murphy (RIP) was just one that I had not heard about. Knew him well when he played with Dickie Rock and Ronan Collins was Drummer (after PJ Coyne left). In the 90's I played here in Galway with Margaret & Sean Gorham (she was Murphy of the Swallows) and she still lives here in Co Galway. I will send on some old band pics I have here if they are of any help and I will give you some more info on some people from this region also. Great to see a comprehensive effort and a worthy site to an era and to the people that gave so much entertainment when Ireland was not such a great place to live in.  Well done !!!!

Comments: Good evening to the 'Checker' . My name is Gerry Curran and you have an article by me on the History of Hilltown INF Hall on your site. Could you put the following on the guest comment line for me. Many thanks.
The website is getting better as the years go past and it is wonderful to read the comments from past showband members. I would like to inform all those showband  members that played in Hilltown INF Hall, Co Down that there was a book launched last year celebrating the life of the Hall since it opened in 1957. It was unbelievable the number of bands and stars that played in the hall. If your band played in the hall the dates are recorded.
For frther information please contact me. Gerry Curran

Comments: Patricia, for many years I and my sister Eileen danced to your father's music.  We especially loved to hornpipe to Harvest Home or Kildare Fancy.  To this day it is the BEST ceili music we have ever heard.  As a matter of fact, our niece will be married this November and I have been searching hi and low to find the Copley recording of his BEST album, in my opinion, "At an Irish Ceili   Songs and Dances by Malachy Sweeney and His Ceili Group"  I hear the music in my head but would love to be able to actually play it, either CD, cassette or even LP (I can find someone to convert it to CD). Can you or anyone out there help?  He played B Y FAR the best ceili music I have ever heard!  this is a GREAT website and I have enjoyed reading all of the comments.  makes me feel like home!  thank you. Comments: Yeh! Like you guys are really making me feel my age. From skiffle group 1958 Danie Sands and the Javalins, morphed into Thunderbolts then butterflied into Monarchs Showband (Belfast version) toured Germany 1963. Then Silhouttes Showband in Romanoes and Irish tours, my my, seams like only 46 years ago. Still have the Rogers Drum kit I bought when I came back, although others followed, I kept it as a momento. It's weird when I look back and realise I'm the last guy alive in several of the bands I played in. A well, time for cocoa and bed. If somebody raps your front door and knocking speeds up, bet you its a drummer wanting in. Good luck to anybody still alive who knows me. Regards, Roy Kane, Millisle, Co.Down

Comments: I Googled my name just for fun and found out that there was a guy named Tony Neenan who played trumpet in The Arrivals. I was really shocked since I have been a professional trumpet player for 40 years and have been touring with Broadway shows for the last 10 years out of New York City and my name is Tony Neenan .  What is even more of a coincidence is that I performed with a 9 piece show band in the USA for 20 years called "The Admirals"  .... very similar name to The Arrivals ... I wonder what city the Irish Tony Neenan was from. I believe
I read that he is deceased.  Anyone having more info send me an email. Thanks, Tony Neenan Baltimore Maryland, USA

I was unfortunately was born too late to enjoy this era.  My parents would attend dances and bring home to me autographed pictures of the bands.  One I vividly remember is Teddy Palmer and the Rumble band.  What has happened to this band or where are they now....... ??  Excellent website... Think its important to keep reminding people of this great era of music in Ireland. Regards Bernardine

Comments: I played in The Red Barons1968-70, the Young Stars from 1970- 73, The Glen Country !972- 75 .76   The original members were all from the village of Armoy - Ballycastle Co Antrim and were in all three bands I had two brothers, and there were two members who were cousins of each other, We use to rehearse in the Quay Road hall Ballycastle where some  may recognise as it was a friday night venue where most showbands played in the 60s and 70s  the first showband i ever heard was the Clipper Carlton in the Quay Road hall in 1968. I was 16 and I will never forget the expereince the sound and atmosphere of a packed dance hall   I was too young to be there, but I was hooked from then on Your website brings back some very happy memories of the showband days keep up the good work Paul Mulholland

Comments: A lot of effort has gone into this great website. My late Dad (Butch Moore) would be thrilled with all the content you have on here. I now believe he was part of something quite special back then in the 60's. He'll always be missed but I feel very fortunate that he has left his music behind for us to listen to...
Again well done on your achievement, your site is the biz! Kind Regards Gary

Comments: Just came upon your website, and find it very interesting and informative.  Nice to see the name of my old group   ' The Tinkers ' listed, but sorry to see ' unknown beside it.  We got together in London in 1964, Gerry Fox, David Burke, my brother Barney and myself ,Eddie McGinley.  We opened a Folk club called The Tinkers Club in Hampstead and were resident there for a number of years while also doing spots around London and elsewhere in Britain. My brother, Barney left the group in 1965, and was replaced by Mick Flynn.  I left in 1966 and formed a showband with my brother called  ' The Glocamorra Seven ' . and we were resident band at an Irish dancehall in Leytonstone called The Inisfail Club.   During that time we were host to many of the showbands of the day, and the names on your list bring back a lot of memories.  I am pressed for time at the moment but would like to continue the story shortly.  Happy new year , Eddie

Hello, I recently found a lovely Irish painting in New Orleans Louisiana signed B.Brown'68. It was framed by John Magee,W.Belfast.The painting is of a man standing in a doorway having what may to be a saxophone strap over his shirt. I believe this could be a work by Billy Brown. Can you kindly put me in touch with anyone who would be knowledgeable regarding his art... And how I can purchase his music? Thank you very much, Paula

Comments: Hi there, I have tried to register on to your site but have failed. There is a band on site called The Fire House Five +2. I was one of the original members of the band which was based in Castlepollard County Westmeath.. The members of the band form your site picture are from left to right as follows: Larry Kennedy, P.J.Kennedy, Donie Cassidy (the Senator), yours truly Michael Kennedy, brother of P.J. and Larry, Noel Masterson, Eddie Newcombe and singer Angela Blacoe. The line up was Larry - drumbs, P.J. rhythmn guitar and trombone, Donie on trumpet, yours truly on lead guitar, Noel on base, Eddie on sax and Angela as lead vocal. As far as I know the only member of the band to pass way is my younger brother Larry(RIP) otherwise we are all in our late 50s to mid 60s. On an other note theere was another band based in Castlepollard called Eddie and the Cravats who were pretty well known about the midlands. Do oyu have any info on them. The leader was Eddie Thornton and his sister Ita  was the lead singer. I would be very interested to know if anyone has a picture or further information.

Comments: Hi There. Alan Jones here,  Crocket Robert Magee wrote a article  “Oceans Apart.” Well I was the manager of the “Oceans” and what he said is true I went on to manage several bands from 1962 until 1971 The Scholars, Dukes, Raydots & Flair Showbands all Belfast based. All featured Lead Vocalist Tom E King who is still performing today better han ever. Three featured Wee Harry Whitley on lead guitar who sadly passed away a few years ago. I then went to England and started another band Junior & the Jesters and played the Irish Circuit until 1978 when I retired from the scene. I think you have a great site but it`s the old story we can`t turn the clock back but it`s great to remember the good old days keep it up I do love looking in from time to time. Many Thanks Regards. Alan Jones
