During the the showband era many excellent recordings were released. Perhaps all the members of the forum might like to list their Top Five faves and the Administrator could draw up a listing of the top 50!  To get things under way here are my top 5:
1. Papa Oo Mow Mow ... Freshmen
2. Here I Stand ... The Airchords
3. No Restrictions ... Tweed
4. You Are No Angel ... Ding A Ling
5 I Gotta  Woman ... Banshees

It's difficult to pick 5 favourites. You'd need about 10. A few that I'd include would be:
If I Didn't Have A Dime Tom Dunphy and Royal
Baby Blue                  The Conquerors
Noreen Bawn            DJ Curtin and the Kerry Blues
The Hucklebuck         Brendan Bowyer and Royal
Papa Ooh Mow mow  The Freshmen

Doesn't really count, folks - it wasn't a showband record, in fact, apart from Tony, it wasn''t even Irish.  Mickie Most and Phil Coulter (ok, so he's Irish aswell!)  put together a UK  session band in a UK studio, got Tony to sing the song (written by Coulter and his then song-writing collaborator, Martin) and called the artist  KENNY for the release.  Despite having a major hit with this song (and the follow up) Tony was unhappy with the arrangments - need I say more! - and returned home to Ireland.  Mickie Most found a pub band, "Chuff", renamed them Kenny, and had them touring quite successfully for a few years.
Read a bit more and see a photo of KENNY at http://www.hometown.aol.co.uk/glamrockbear/page9.html
No sign of Tony there!
