Comments: Ah, The Johnny Flynn Showband!!   I remember one night in Tyrone, the lead guitar became a bit excited, and leapt up on top of the piano. The Parish priest, who went on to be Bishop Daly of Bloody Sunday fame, rushed on stage and told him to get off the Church piano. The guitar player, I don't remember his name. Leapt up in the air, still playing the guitar and landed in the splits in the middle of the stage. The crowd went wild.
What a great brass section johnny Flynn had, I used to go to the hall early to hear them play dixieland numbers.
Thank you Johnny Flynn for making my teenage years so enjoyable and memorable. That's all for now--your next dance-please!

Comments: My friend and I were just discussing old times and the Maple Leaf Ballroom came up. We frequented the place quite often in the 60' and 70' and in discussing old times Teddie Palmer's name was brought up and she passed your website along to me. I never did make it over seas but she said she had visited Teddie a few times. She is still in Toronto and her name was Marlyn (tiger) I believe she said she met Teddie while he was playing at the ballroom and she worked there. The ballroom was a marvellous place

I was lucky enough to become friends with Pat lynch and Liam from the Aircords, they befriended us after a horrific car crash, I often wonder where they are and how they are with great fondness. I now live in Palm Springs California. great site thank you.

Comments: HI There. Great looking at the Plainsmen again, you do not seem to have the name of the tall dark man standing at the back of the band, his name is Roger Ferrall, I know this because I am related to him and when the band were playing locally he brought me to the dances and I was able to meet all the band which was great for me in my teens.  He did not play the keyboard, he played the guitar. If any of the band members look up this site I say hi to them and if they remember Rogers little cousin called Grace going to the dances. Sorry that the band era has ended, there was great music ability in these bands and also a great source of employment.  I still remember the sax playing a tune called 'Oh My Papa'.

Comments: Hi there. Great website. Very enjoyable. Just one question? Can you tell me why Pat Mcgarr, leader of the Gallowglass Ceili Band is not mentioned in the 'In Memory' section? Paddy died in March 2005 which you probably are aware. Im from Aberdeenshire in Scotland and have  broadcast Scottish dance music for many years. I often think people forget just how big the Gallowglass were in the 60's and early 70's. They were huge in the north east of Scotland , filling halls to capacity every night of the week. I was a great friend of Pat Mcgarr and huge fan of the band. That is a super pic. on your website. I can give you the 'unknown' band members names if you require them. Do you know where that pic.was taken by any chance and have you anymore' on stage' that may be coming up? Hope to hear from you soon and thanks for keeping those now distant memories alive. Dennis.

Comments: As a former next door neighbour to Fran O'Toole (Miami Showband) & Val and also a former member of Mike Copinger's Royal Showband (Tpt) and Sandy Jones and the Boyfriends, I would like to pay tribute to a really special guy who was Fran O'Toole! We often debated the wisdom of travelling north for gigs! I remember the Funeral in detail to this day held in Bray. Regrettably I travelled quite a bit since the 70's and lost Fran's LP released shortly before the travisty and would be grateful for any contact to secure a copy of the recording. Your site has brought back many very happy memories. Keep up the good work. Billy H

Comments: I grew up listening to Pat McGarr's Band the GallowGlass Ceili Band (Come to the Ceili) along with other's like Johnny Powell's band. My mother is from County Sligo, she and my dad always enjoyed listening and dancing to the traditional irish music. I've also loved the music, I played the drumset in an irish band for a while when I was younger, the accordian for a while and the bagpipes. Having a family slows things down, but i'm planning on getting back into it again in the near future. I'm thinking of the uillean pipes next. Thanks for the site!   Jim Whelan

Comments: Im very interested to find out if Sandy Kelly is coming back to preform in Tralee or Killarney  Co Kerry in the near future. I enjoyed her shows when she did come to Tralee in the past, my 22 year old daughter Sinead is a big fan of Patsy Cline & Dolly Parton, Sinead had the pleasure of singing at Sun studios in Nashville this year  and recorded a Patsy Cline song called 'If I could see the world through the eyes of a child,' it went down very well and they were very impressed with her. I brought Sinead when she was 8 to see Sandy Kelly perform the Patsy Cline story  in Tralee and since then Patsy Cline's songs have been of great interest to her. Sinead was very interested to know what Sandy was up to these days so hence why I'm on this website checking out for her. Great to hear Sandy Kelly  is still alive and singing, keep it up ! Fab website great to get the Country News you cant beat it ' Hi Yee All  Geraldine

Comments: You have a wonderful website on the Showband scene. Do you have anything on the late Mick Mulligan, Charlestown, who taught many of the Showband performers, in their various crafts? He played  with and managed the Dixietones and the Fab five. Thanking you, Cathal Henry.

Comments: Hi Guys,  I must say a fantastic site that you have here and brings back many many wonderful memories.  Under the band CIRCLE  in the late 60s you have my name and (unknown) as to what instrument played, I was the drummer. The orignal band played early 60s and under management of Kieran Ward who was also the local well known DJ and absolute gentleman. When they folded, he reformed the band after hearing us practice (with his hired equipment), the reformed original members where John Craig (15 years old fantastic muso) lead,  Davy Hughes (musical genius), guitar, Keys and Sax, Felix Brennan Bass (wildman, great guy) and Brian Carville (amazing vocalist) and remained managed by Kieran. Currently John Craig and I are looking at a putting together detailed information of the Circle, working from two points of the globe but some great stories in  playing through the worst time of ' The Troubles". Anyway, again thanks for the memories, if any other information/comments/stories photos that may come available from anyone who may have seen The CIRCLE during that era LATE 60s I would be happy to see it. As a point of note there are some very famous Rock Legends here in Australia originally from Belfast, one Aussie Rock Hall fo Famer I believe. Anyway, again great site well done. Cheers (from Australia). Danny Seenan

Comments: Hi Fergus. As your link to email appears to be dead, I'd suggest that you check on Murphy Flood's in Enniscorthy as it was demolished years ago. Just been speaking to Manx Telecom over here in the sunny Isle of Man to sort out a technical problem with my phone, and he (Ciaran) tells me that his uncle was Kevin Whelan, who was caretaker in Adamstown Ballroom (Co Wexford) where we played many times. Hi to Sandy Kelly,  I was thrilled to see you and Barbara In VIP!  It was a lovely article and so well deserved.  I have been a great fan of yours for a long time and had the great pleasure of meeting you twice, In Carlow and in RTE Studio at your TV Show! which were really brilliant and should be shown again.  I am PRO for the Lalor Centre in Baltinglass which is a Day Centre for young adults with Special Needs and we would love to have you and Barbara come to visit us sometime you will be in the area we would all be delighted to see you both.  We will open a brand new centre in December and hope to have the President officiate at this.   I will never forget years ago when you rang me at Bank of Ireland where I work still and I was told Sandy Kelly was llooking for me! You very kindly sent £50 to us for our annual auction You probobly dont remember but we all do in Baltinglass. Thank you so much for all your lovely music and you are a great example to all of us.  Keep smiling Sandy and Barbara take good care of each other.  Yours most sincerely, Anna Mae
